Smaller than HENRI ROUSSEAU's 'The Hungry Lion throws itself on the Antelope' (Le lion, ayant faim, se jette sur l'antilope-1898/1905) and with less attention to the jungle vegetation than 'Traumgarten', this piece was painted more than one hundred years after the death of Rousseau, one of the main forerunners of modern art, with his well-known jungle paintings characterised his later work. Here the provencal influence again emerges and this painting combines the realism and naivety of Roussesau with the wit and whimsy of Walker.
I am a painter/illustrator born in Oxford, UK, brought up in the Cotswolds, working in Bavaria and France and now living and painting in Provence, France. I paint in oils and acrylics. Generally brightly coloured in a medium size to small format. Subjects vary from abstract, through whimsical and enigmatic to classic landscape. Styles also vary considerably depending on season, surreal, impressionist, cubist. People, animals, trees and urban scenes feature in many of my works. Each painting is entirely original influenced by my environment and by masters and classics. I undertake commissions as this gives me the opportunity to see from another standpoint. My aim is to produce pleasing and thought provoking paintings, that can be lived...
